ORLANDO — Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, has been selected to serve as a delegate representing the Republican Party at this year's MegaCon Florida convention.
The 18-year-old will be one of several hundred GOP delegates in attendance at the massive pop culture event, which annually draws tens of thousands of fans of comic books, science fiction, gaming, and other genres. His participation marks the first time a member of the former First Family has taken such an official role at a major fan convention.
“We're incredibly excited to welcome Barron as part of our Republican delegation," said Ronna McDaniel, Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee. "He's a tremendous ambassador for the party's conservative values and its vision for the future."
Barron's selection comes amid the GOP's increasing outreach to younger voters and non-traditional constituencies. As a devoted fan of topics like cybersecurity and virtual worlds, the teenage scion could help the party connect with MegaCon's tech-savvy attendees on a personal level.
“I can't wait to experience all the cutting-edge games, movies, and technology at MegaCon," Barron said in a statement. "It'll be really incredible to meet so many creative people who are forging the frontiers of innovation."
In his role as delegate, Barron is expected to participate in a range of official convention activities and forums discussing the future of entertainment and digital media. He may also make an appearance on the MegaCon main stage, though details are still being finalized.
The Republican Party's presence at MegaCon Florida marks a concerted effort to make inroads with younger voters who have trended increasingly liberal in recent election cycles. However, critics have questioned the appropriateness of involving Barron in partisan politics given his age and status as a private citizen.
MegaCon Florida takes place from August 22-25 at the DisneyWorld Convention Center. It remains to be seen what kind of reception the youngest Trump will receive from the convention's famously passionate fan base.
