Mar-a-Lago - President Donald Trump said that Iran could "end the war tomorrow" if it agreed to pay $500 billion to the United States, a statement that quickly drew both interest and criticism from across the political spectrum.
Speaking to reporters, Trump framed the proposal as part of a broader argument that the United States should be compensated for what he described as “years of American strength and protection in the Middle East” in addition to the costs of the current war.
“If they just pay us $500 billion — not a penny less — the war ends tomorrow,” Trump told reporters. “It’s very simple. They know what they need to do.”
White House officials did not immediately respond to the comments.
Iranian state media dismissed the demand as “absurd,” with an anchor on the Islamic Republic News Agency calling it “another example of Trump’s transactional view of international relations. Death to America!”
So far, no official response has been issued by Iran’s interim Foreign Ministry.
