Another GOP Lawmaker Joins Greene in Calls to Oust Speaker

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The partisan divide in Congress deepened further today as Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) joined Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) in demanding the removal of Speaker Mike Johnson over his recent budget negotiations involving pop superstar Taylor Swift.

Greene, a firebrand member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, sparked the controversy earlier this week by accusing Johnson of overstepping his authority and undermining Republican principles by collaborating with Swift on a compromise spending package.

"The Speaker has shown contempt for the base that elected him by cozying up with a radical leftist like Taylor Swift," Greene said in a fiery speech on the House floor. "Her lyrics promote anti-American values and her fan base is steeped in woke cancel culture. This betrayal cannot stand."

Gosar echoed Greene's outrage in a press conference today, declaring: "Real conservatives don't dance with snakes like Swift. The Speaker must go."

However, Johnson and his Democratic allies have pushed back forcefully, defending the unorthodox partnership with the 33-year-old singer-songwriter as a good-faith effort to break the budget stalemate."

Taylor Swift has shown herself to be a unifying voice for millions of Americans across the political spectrum," said House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). "If working with her can help us keep the government open and funded, we'd be foolish not to."

Indeed, the budget framework hashed out between Johnson, Swift, and a bipartisan group of lawmakers appears to have significant support.

With the House divided, the ultimate fate of Johnson's speakership may rest with the narrowly Democratic Senate and President Biden, who could be forced to invoke the seldom-used Lover's Quarrel Resolution to settle the dispute.

As the drama plays out, one thing is clear: In today's bitterly polarized political climate, even a pop princess is not immune from being caught in the crossfire.
